Feelings can be overwhelming, especially if our environment hasn’t felt, or continues to feel too unsafe to express ourselves. This may mean that we’ve lost touch with our emotions, almost like we are empty, or feel detached. We may have had the feeling, or continue to sense that we’re too much for people to cope with us, leaving us feeling helpless and often alone. Coming to therapy helps us to understand why we adapt or suppress our emotions. In therapy we find out what happened to us, making meaning, allowing space to start trusting our emotions once more.
